If you are NOT a Google+ user that shares and receives billions of items every day then you are missing out! Circles give you a personal lens on all this activity, helping you focus on updates from your family or your favorite celebrities. But sometimes you want to know what the world is so excited about. Whether it’s breaking news or beautiful photos, you just don’t want to miss anything. With this in mind, we’re launching “What’s Hot” on Google+, a new place to visit for interesting and unexpected content:
Every day over 1 billion posts are shared and received on Google +. What does the community as a whole find that is exciting online?
1. What’s Hot New Google+ Feature!
This new feature appears in two places with the first being Google Mainstream. As you scroll down the page, you can see what is hot after you have read your new posts. From there you can quickly read and make comments on the new posts. This is not just the same old faces. There is a diversity of fresh posts. What is Hot is also a stand-alone stream. Just click what is hot on the left6 side of the page and you can view what is trending on Google +. You can then quickly add this person to one of your circles. The only setback is you do not have control of your stream.
With features like Real Time search and what is hot, you can now find interesting people, content and conversations on Google +.
2. Google+ Ripples lets you Watch Your Posts Get Shared.
This can be quite satisfying seeing shared Google+ posts unfold. You can view the comments pouring in, notifications light up, friends sharing with friends (who then share with their friends), and within a short time there’s an entire community around your post. This allows people re-live those conversations—both to learn how posts flow across the network and also to rekindle that initial excitement. This new Google+ Ripples feature is a visualization tool for all public comments and shares.
After Twitter rolled out its Twitter’s “Trending Topics” feature, it is nice to see Google roll out with this new feature. The "still experimental" feature allows you to see the activity around any public Google + post by selecting "View Ripples."
How to Get Started:
Simply find a public post that interests you and then select “View Ripples.” Next you can replay the activity, identify top contributors, zoom in on certain events, and much more. Google+ Ripples is new and still in the experimental stage but it is a pretty awesome feature.
3. Google+ Creative Kit.
This new feature allows you to have more fun with editing your photos.
Want to tell a story with a perfect picture? Check out this Google+ Creative Video on YouTube. This new creative kit feature allows you do your own limited photo editing without requiring specialized software and lots of patience, and this is a fast and friendly way to make powerful edits to your own photos.
You can alter your photos to add a vintage feel to your vacation photos or perhaps sharpen those snapshots from the family barbeque. Want to add some text for that added personality? With this new Creative Kit, you can now do it all and all you need is an idea.
4. Google’s New GoMo.
This new Google GoMo initiative helps businesses create their own mobile-friendly site. With most consumers going to a SmartPhone, traditional websites will be passé in the next few years. It has been stated that by the year 2013, more people will use their mobile phones than PCs to get online. Mobile searchers have grown 4x since 2010. By the year 2015, it has been stated that there will be one mobile device for every person on earth. Just because you can download your desktop site on a mobile phone doesn’t mean it is truly a mobile-friendly site. A mobile-friendly website can help your business connect with customers and drive real conversations. Your customers are already mobile. Are you? Did you know that 60% of online users expect a mobile site to load in three seconds or less and that 71% of users expect a mobile site to load as fast as a desktop site? If this does not happen, 78% of users will retry a site two times or less if it does not load properly then leave and not come back. Do you want your visitors to turn to your competitor’s site after a bad mobile experience? Customers are connecting with businesses in their local area on mobile.
Stay tuned next week to learn more about some other cool tools and Apps to use in the Social Media virtual world.
